Where to write

Two mailboxes, both live, both read by the same person — Zane Hitchcox, who publishes this site and writes all of it. There is no contact form, no telephone number, no chat widget and no ticket queue, and nothing you send is added to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

• editor@biodrainmedical.com — anything about the publication: a document we should have read, a state or a treatment works missing from a register, a question about how something here was sourced, a reuse or republication request, or a note that a link no longer resolves.
• corrections@biodrainmedical.com — anything that is wrong. Include the page title and the date printed on the page, and the sentence you are disputing. If you can name the document you think we misread, that is the fastest possible route to a fix.

Either address reaches us; the split exists so that a correction is never lost in general mail. Nothing is answered by an automated system, and no reply you get from here was written by anyone but the publisher.

What we can answer

• Where a rule actually says what someone told you it says. If you have been handed a policy citing a regulation, and you cannot find the sentence, tell us which regulation and which claim. That question is the reason this publication exists, and it is the one we most want to receive.
• How a page here was made. Which text we retrieved, when, from which server, and what was scanned to support a statement that a document contains no such provision.
• A document we missed. A state rule, a sewer-use ordinance, a letter of interpretation, a bill or a study that changes what is on a page. Registers exist to absorb this; a state or a utility we have not read is published as an unchecked row rather than left out, precisely so that someone can send us the missing text.
• A correction. See below.
• Reuse. Our own prose, tables and diagrams are CC BY 4.0 and need no permission — the terms are at How to cite and reuse — but if you want a specific table in a policy binder or a teaching pack and want to check the attribution wording first, write and we will confirm it.

What we cannot answer

• Anything about a STREAMWAY unit — parts, service, documentation, pricing, installation, a purchase, a trade-in or a warranty. We have never owned, operated, serviced or seen one. That product line belongs to another company, named in the notice above, and we have no relationship with it and cannot pass a message to it.
• Anything about the former registrant of this domain — its filings, its securities, its shareholders, its press releases or its current business. Its SEC filings are public under the CIK number in the notice above. We are not its successor, its agent or its spokesman, and we hold none of its records.
• Whether your facility may pour something down a particular drain. That is decided by your state’s medical waste rule, your sewer authority’s ordinance and your own facility policy, in that order, and none of the three is ours to read on your behalf. What we can do is show you the published text of the first two and the date we retrieved it.
• Anything clinical or urgent. Nobody here is a clinician, and no answer from this address is medical or legal advice. If you have had a blood or body-fluid exposure, contact your occupational health service or an emergency department now rather than reading a web page.
• Which system to buy. We do not rank, recommend, endorse or compare named products, and we will not do it privately either.
• Guest posts, sponsored content, link placement, advertising and paid reviews. None of these is available at any price and none ever has been. Mail offering them is deleted unread; a persistent sender is blocked. Why the answer is permanent is at Independence and funding.

Corrections, and what we commit to

If we get something wrong, tell us and we will fix it in public. Corrections are dated, permanent, and describe the error rather than hiding it: the notice says what the page originally said and what it says now. We do not delete a wrong sentence and move on, and we do not quietly edit a page and let the old version disappear — silently rewritten pages are the failure this subject is built out of.

We aim to answer a correction within five working days and to publish a documented correction within seven, whether or not the person who found it wants credit. If we think you are wrong, you will get a reply saying so and setting out the document we are relying on, which is a better outcome for both of us than silence. What happens to what you send

Mail is read by one person and is not shared, sold, published or added to any list. We do not publish your name, your employer or your message without asking you first, and a correction is credited only if you want it to be — plenty of people who work in an operating room have good reasons not to be named next to a criticism of a policy. This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and makes no third-party request; what the server logs is set out at Privacy.

If you followed an old link to this address

You have probably arrived from a press release published between 2009 and 2013, which linked to the contact page of the company that then used this domain name. That company’s website is gone, none of it is republished here, and this page is not its replacement. What became of the company, of its product line and of this domain name is set out with dates and primary sources in the Domain Record. If you believe an address on this domain ought to resolve to something and does not, write to the editor and we will say so in public either way.
